jorge mañes: fried chicken street lighting

in his series ‘fried chicken street lighting’, spanish designer jorge mañes illuminates the darker and less safe streets of the city with projections of the bright facades of fast food restaurants from other parts of town.
the works provide unconventional street lighting along the otherwise generally unlit alleyways, and offer a sense of increased security, simulating the kinds of social activity that normally crop up around late-night establishments. ‘I’ve always been fascinated by these kinds of restaurants,’ mañes admits: ‘their design, their bright signs and colours, and all the different kinds of services that they provide to the city, besides the ‘food’ itself.’
